Great Southern Mining: It goes deep – Laverton gold play grows serious legs!

Great Southern Mining is drilling across a spread of gold targets around Laverton. Its Duketon project hosts the Golden Boulder and Amy Clarke discoveries, while at Edinburough Park in Queensland, mega-miner Gold Fields is funding a hunt for a large intrusive-related system. But today the focus is Mon Ami south of Laverton, where fresh drilling has pushed known gold mineralisation deeper and opened another target to the north — all on a granted mining lease within trucking distance of several gold plants.

Matt Birney - I'm Matt Birney and I'm joined now by the Managing Director of Great Southern, Matt Keane.
Matt Birney - Hi Matt.
Matt Keane - Hi Matt.
Matt Birney - Okay, so Great Southern Mining is drilling across a spread of gold targets around Laverton. It's Duketon project hosts the Golden Boulder and Amy Clarke discoveries while at Edinburgh Park in Queensland, mega miner Goldfields is funding a hunt for a large intrusive related system. But today the focus is on Mon Ami , south of Laverton, where fresh drilling has pushed known gold mineralisation deeper and opened another target to the north — all on a granted mining lease I might say.
Matt Birney - Matt, we'll get into that drilling at Mon Ami in a minute, but what's the initial resource there now? Looks like it's going to grow, but what is it now?
Matt Keane - Mon Ami's got a current resource of 55,000 ounces going 1.1 grams per tonne, very strategically located. It's in the middle of a very busy district in Laverton with up to four existing and planned mills within a, very small radius, which we could truck to.
Matt Birney - Okay, so this latest campaign at Mon Ami has underlined the depth potential of the project. We'll get to those drill results in a minute, but just tell me, what did you learn from the campaign?
Matt Keane - Look, we found we found out this is very much open at depth in areas where we didn't expect to hit mineralisation, so very exciting for resource expansion for this particular deposit.
Matt Birney - All right, well hit me with the best intercept from the latest campaign.
Matt Keane - Well, the standout was 16 meters at 3.37 which included an intercept within that of 4 meters at 8.54 grams per tonne gold, so really nice hit at depth.
Matt Birney - How deep?
Matt Keane - That one was down at 178 meters, not overly deep, but the deepest for us so far.
Matt Birney - Okay, and what other drill hits in this latest campaign support the theory that Mon Ami keeps going at depth?
Matt Keane - Yeah, we drilled six holes initially, we got all those results and all of them hit gold with step out 70 to 30 meters below the existing resource. The best of those, I think, is one 55 meters to the north. That's opened up a whole new area where we can now explore.
Matt Keane - So we're looking for quite a good extension with the next round of drilling.
What was that result to the north?
Matt Keane - We hit 19 meters at 1.12 grams per tonne gold from 213 meters.
Matt Birney - Okay, now very quickly, what other projects are you drilling now or awaiting numbers from because you're pretty active at the moment, right?
Matt Keane - We are. To the north of Laverton in the Duketon district. We've got a lot of drilling underway. We've currently got 38 holes, we're pending results at Golden Boulder discovery and currently drilling our emerging Amy Clarke discovery and all of these are right on the doorstep of Regis Resources. Who have a very large infrastructure installed up there in the Duketon Belt.
