Matt Birney - Welcome to Bulls N' Bears, brought to you today by gold explorer, Hawthorn Resources

Matt Birney - ASX code: HAW

Matt Birney - I'm Matt Birney, and I'm joined now by the Managing Director of Hawthorn Resources, Brian Thornton.

Matt Birney - Hi, Brian.

Brian Thornton - Hi, Matt.

Matt Birney - Okay, so back in 2017, Hawthorn Resources mined its 70% owned Anglo-Saxon gold deposit east of Kalgoorlie for about 3 years. And that program unusually resulted in millions in cash being distributed to Hawthorn shareholders. The project has been on care and maintenance since about 2020. But something tells me that's all about to change when I look at the spectacular drill results just tabled by Hawthorn which I want to get to.

Matt Birney - Now Brian, firstly, how many ounces did you mine back then and at what grade?

Brian Thornton - Matt we mined 50,000 ounces roughly at a grade of 2.4 grams per tonne.

Matt Birney - Now I believe there's still a remnant resource left over at that project. Is that right?

Brian Thornton - Yes, there is. There's 157,000 ounces of 6.1 grams in JORC, which we've since just upgrading at the moment.

Matt Birney - A drill result of an ounce to the tonne or or 31 odd grams per tonne is sort of the holy grail as you would know in gold drilling and they're hard to come by. When I look at your material, I can see them scattered all over this thing. How many separate ounce to the tonne hits did you nail in this latest campaign?

Brian Thornton - Well, in the total drilling, we did about 15 separate holes coming in at more than an ounce a tonne.

Matt Birney - Mmm good stuff. Now give me some of the best numbers from that campaign.

Brian Thornton - Some of the best numbers I can look at Matt were 1 meter at 85.76 grams from 94 m. Another was 1 meter at 73.69 grams from 84 m.

Matt Birney - What are some of the better historical drill results that make up the existing resource at this project?

Brian Thornton - If we go back about 5 years, some of the earlier stuff was about 3.5 at 222 grams per tonne from 127 m and that included a 0.5 intersection of 734 grams per tonne. Another good one was what 0.47 at 209 grams per tonne from 90.61 meters. So pretty shallow.

Matt Birney - Do the new drill numbers change the game at all? Is there any chance you can get mining again? Could you toll treat the ore somewhere?

Brian Thornton - Absolutely. I mean we are within 30 kms of Carosue Dam. We're 25kms north of Rebecca the new Romeilius project and we're about 150 kms from Kalgoorlie where we treated some ore in the last 3 years.

Matt Birney - And are we talking underground or open pit now? I mean we've got 157,000 ounces. These new numbers will add something. But what are we talking here?

Brian Thornton - This will be an open pit operation. It was potentially an underground operation post our first stage open pit, but the the economics of an an open pit today are compelling given the gold price and the potential to open pit this with a larger open pit.

Matt Birney - Brian Thornton from Hawthorn Resources.

Matt Birney - Thanks for joining me on Bulls N' Bears and remember we're only here to give you information, not advice, which you should of course seek independently.

Matt Birney - I'm Matt Birney and this is Bulls N' Bears.
